Our Story

Show My Smile Mask

Show My Smile™ was founded by Amy Becker, the mother of a young man with autism and a 38-year marketing veteran who has always loved sewing. She began sewing typical pleated masks when the pandemic stay-at-home order was issued in March of 2020, and gave them to group homes for developmentally disabled adults.Show My Smile Mask

In April, Amy was approached by a friend who is a sign language interpreter, seeking a better solution than cloth masks and face shields. At the same time, her son’s speech therapist was looking for a high-quality, breathable clear window face mask. Amy took the best features she could find from masks on the market and the Show My Smile™ mask was born!

Her interpreter friend loved them, and asked for more for colleagues. Show My Smile™ then became a shop on Etsy, and as demand continued to grow, Amy brought in extra help from young people who no longer had stable work due to the pandemic. The Show My Smile™ team was formed!

Show My Smile™ garnered the attention of teachers, members of the deaf and hard of hearing communities, speech therapists, and special education departments. Lawyers and judges started ordering smile masks so they could see witnesses’ faces as they testified. Service workers ordered smile masks so they could be more welcoming to their customers. They couldn't keep up!

By July, Amy found a manufacturing partner in Dallas who reopened her factory to start making smile masks. Today, Show My Smile™ proudly employs a dozen workers in New Jersey and Dallas, and supports adaptive employment of people with autism and other developmental disabilities.
